Convention is the sixth episode of Season 2 of Malcolm in the Middle and the twenty-second episode overall of the show.
Plot[]
Hal and Lois goes to a convention where he's fighting with his co-worker over ideas the latter stole from him. Malcolm, Reese and Dewey are saddled with a babysitter while they're gone. Assuming it's another cranky and cantankerous old woman caring for them, the boys plot a heinous prank to send her running from the home.... only to discover that their new babysitter is a sexy teen named Patty. Meanwhile, Francis must keep Spangler off him.

Malcolm, Reese and Dewey prepare for the arrival of their babysitter. Assuming it's another old woman caring for them, the boys plot a heinous prank that will send her running. To Malcolm, Reese and Dewey's surprise, their babysitter is a sexy teenager named Patty.
Hal and Lois go out of town to a convention, where Hal keeps picking fights with a co-worker who stole an idea he had. The two men get into a fight and are arrested by the cops. Lois had enough and tells him off how immature he's behaving. She give Hal a choice: He could take his anger out on the co-worker and they could go to jail where they'll both be surrounded by hardened men. Or as Lois suggests, he can take his anger on her and they can use it to have an outlet for sex in their hotel room. Hal tells Lois that isn't fair of her to use this in an attempt to get a sultry mode on, but later agrees to avoid jail time.
Back at home, the boys compete for the attention of Patty, an old friend of Francis (who doesn't know that she is gorgeous now, having been obese while he was going to school with her). She finds Dewey too adorable and barely notices the other two. Malcolm and Reese become jealous and try to get Francis' help. Dewey locks Malcolm and Reese outside and sleeps with Patty, Reese falls through the pothole trap that was setup.

- This episode continues with Dewey getting along his babysitters. The first time is in season 1's Water Park and the last time is in season 4's Reese's Party.
- Melody Perkins makes her credited role as Patty. She previously appeared uncredited as BeeBee in Pilot
